HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball Team (11-5, 3-1 SBC) held off a second-half surge seconds to secure a 66-64 road win over James Madison in Sun Belt Conference action on Wednesday night in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

"We played hard. It was a huge team win on the road against a really good program and really good coaching staff. I'm proud of our guys pulling this one out," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Cornelius 'Corny' Jackson said after the win.

Marshall held the lead for more than 38 minutes. The Herd defense played a pivotal role, tallying 18 points off 11 turnovers and turning over the ball just six times.

Noah Otshudi was the driving force, logging a career-high 39 minutes and leading the Herd with 16 points on 7-for-14 shooting. Otshudi also chipped in five rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Herd set the tone early, responding to a quick 2-0 James Madison start with a commanding 12-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Wyatt Fricks. Fricks contributed 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and a block. Marshall led by as many as 13 points and took a 36-25 advantage into halftime.

After the break, the Herd's defense was tested as James Madison heated up, shooting 54 percent in the second half and gradually chipping away at the lead. Jalen Speer delivered by scoring 15 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out a team-best four assists. The Gainesville, Florida, native made a pair of freebies in the final seconds to hold off the Dukes.

The defensive effort was rounded out by Erich Harding, who secured three steals, and Drew Fuquay, who registered a pair of blocks.
