CONWAY, S.C. – The Marshall Men's Soccer Team (6-2-4, 2-1-2 SBC) picked up a crucial three points with a 2-1 win on Saturday night in Conway, South Carolina, over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

"First of all, congrats to the lads. They're the first Marshall team I've had, that has come here and won," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "Previously, we'd had two 0-0 draws, so the challenge to ourselves was to be the first Marshall team in the SBC era to get three points here. So we accomplished that! Very happy for Alaba (Joao Roberto) tonight, two goals in two games and two match winners! It's lovely to see that from him in his senior year!"

The difference came in the 88th minute. With the contest tied 1-1, Ramado Pierre-Louis sent a pass into Alvaro Alvarez inside the 18-yard box. Alvarez sent a cross to the far post and found Joao Roberto, who headed it off a Coastal defender into the goal for his second game-winner of the week. The tally marked Roberto's third of the season with Alvarez registering his first assist of the season and Pierre-Louis notching his team leading fifth.

Both sides finished with 11 shots and four on target each. MU goalkeeper Alan Horrocks made three crucial saves in the 40th, 54th and 60th minutes to keep Coastal Carolina to just the one goal.

The Herd tallied the first goal of the contest at the 29:39 mark. Pierre-Louis had a shot blocked, but the ball went right to Carl Romberg. Romberg then found Joao Carvalho. Carvalho then fired a shot past Chanticleer keeper Nash Skoglund for his first goal of season on Romberg's fourth assist to bring his team-leading point total to 12.

The Chanticleers equalized in the 63rd minute on a goal from Alberto de Miguel, but the Herd answered with Roberto's game-winning tally at the 87:48 mark to come away with the three points.

"We had good spells and bad spells in the game," Grassie said. "I think in the moments we recognized and attacked the right spaces we were special. But in the moments we couldn't find the correct spaces it was a lot tougher. Now on to JMU on Wednesday, we'll keep this momentum going."
