Marshall Tennis Takes Home Opener over Bowling Green

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. – The Marshall University Tennis team (3-3) earned a 6-1 win over the Bowling Green Falcons to home its home schedule at the 7827 Tennis Center on Saturday in Barboursville, West Virginia.

"I was really impressed with the Bowling Green team. I thought they were really well coached and disciplined. They had good fight. We did a good job to comeback and win all six singles matches. We're a young team. We're still working to clean things up and keep getting better," Herd Tennis Head Coach John Mercer said.

After dropping the doubles point, The Herd picked it up during singles. Alina Mokrynska tied the match 1-1 with a straight-set triumph at number three.

Freshman Thalia Smith followed with 7-5, 6-2, win at number four with follow freshman Sarah Copley putting MU up 3-1 taking her contest at number five, 6-4, 6-2.

Freshman Polina Gumeniuk sealed the match for Marshall at number singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Johanna Strom and Nour El Ouazzani completed the sweep of singles with victories at numbers one and six, respectively.
