Herd looking to sweep season series with Mountaineers

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University's Men's Basketball team (17-10, 9-5 SBC) is headed to Holmes Convocation Center on Thursday night for a battle with App State, who is currently atop the SBC standings.
Thursday's contest at Holmes Convocation Center is set for 6:30 p.m. in Boone, N.C. and will be shown on ESPN+.
The 2025-26 season marks the 50-year anniversary of this rivalry, and it will be the 58th all-time meeting between the teams. Marshall leads the overall series, 37-20.

PRE-GAME NOTES
- Marshall is coming off an 84-80 win over then-SBC leaders South Alabama on Monday that pushed App State into first place. With a win, the Herd would move into at least a tie for first place in the SBC standings.
- Wyatt Fricks is coming off a 27-point, 7-rebound, 5-block performance in the win over South Alabama. Fricks leads the team at 15.4 points per game, but has taken it to another level in February, averaging 21.3 ppg this month.
- Jalen Speer's 159 assists lead the SBC and sits 22nd nationally. Speer also is coming off a big performance against South Alabama with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
- The Herd hit 18 3-pointers against South Alabama, including 12 in the first half. Marshall leads the Sun Belt in 3-pointers per game (10.3) and 3-point percentage (36.9).
- Other areas that the Herd lead the Sun Belt in: Assists per game (17.1), Assist-to-Turnover Ratio (1.43), Blocks per game (5.1) and Effective FG percentage (54.7).
ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
- The Mountaineers had their 7-game winning streak snapped in their last game, falling to James Madison, 69-58.
- App State is led in scoring by Kasen Jennings at 15.3 points per game.
- Luke Wilson is coming off an 18-point, 16-rebound effort for the Mountaineers against JMU.
- The Mountaineers lead the Sun Belt Conference in scoring defense (64.3 ppg) and 3-point percentage defense (30.6).
- App State is 17-10 overall and 10-5 in the SBC. The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 25 in the Mid-Major Top 25.
