Wyatt Fricks leads Herd with 25 on Senior Day, but Herd falls late to Eagles

Box Score | 2026 SBC Men's Basketball Championship Bracket

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Men's Basketball fell in its Senior Day contest with Georgia Southern, dropping a 99-82 loss to the Eagles in front of 5,167 fans at Cam Henderson Center on Friday night.

With the loss, the Herd falls to 19-12 on the season and ends the season at 11-7 in the Sun Belt Conference.

"We talked about it before the game that if we wanted to beat these guys, we can't let them live in the 90s," Marshall Men's Basketball head coach Cornelius Jackson said. "The games they've lost, they've been in the 60s or 75 max and now they've scored 101 against us down there and 99 today. We just couldn't guard them."

Despite the loss, Marshall is still the No. 2 seed in the 2026 SBC Tournament and will advance to Sunday's second semifinal at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT at Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida.

The Herd earned the No. 2 seed based on the league's tiebreaker scenarios after six teams finished at 11-7 in league play.

In his last game at Cam Henderson Center, Fricks scored a team-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds to lead the Herd.

Noah Otshudi also had 19 points for the Herd - all of which came in the first half as Marshall took a 40-38 lead into the locker room.

The game turned in the second half as Georgia Southern turned 14 Marshall turnovers into 24 points with many coming late during a 13-2 run to end the game, which produced the final margin in what was a close contest.

In addition to Fricks and Otshudi, the Herd got 12 points from Landen Joseph and 10 from Shamarrie Hugie in the loss.

The Herd's opponent for the Sunday matchup at the Pensacola Bay Center will be determined on Saturday afternoon when the Herd faces the winner of No. 3 Coastal Carolina and the play-in winner of Game 8, which could be several teams.
