Marshall Men’s Basketball Set For SBC Semifinals On Sunday

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Marshall University's Men's Basketball team is set to open play at the 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Championships at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday evening.
The No. 2 seed Thundering Herd (19-12 overall, 11-7 SBC) takes on Saturday's winner of Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern in the second semifinal from Pensacola Bay Center on Sunday with the winner advancing to the 2026 SBC Championship Game.

PRE-GAME NOTES
- Marshall comes into the SBC Tournament as the No. 2 seed after finishing at the top of a six-way tiebreaker at the end of the regular season.
- Marshall head coach Cornelius Jackson was recently named as a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award, given to the most outstanding minority men's Division I college basketball head coach. It is the second straight year that Jackson has received the honor.
- With a win on Sunday, Marshall would complete consecutive 20-win seasons. It would be the first time since the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons that the Herd achieved that mark.
- Marshall senior forward Wyatt Fricks was recently named as an All-SBC First Team selection. Fricks is averaging 15.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
- Herd guard Jalen Speer was named to the All-SBC Second Team after averaging a team-best 15.7 points per game to go along with an SBC-leading 5.5 assists per game.

- Coastal Carolina earned the No. 3 seed for the 2026 SBC Championships,
- Like Coach Jackson, Coastal Carolina coach Justin Gray was recently named as a 2026 Ben Jobe Award finalist. He was also named a Hugh Durham Award finalist, as well.
- Of Coastal Carolina's 31 games, 20 have been decided by two possessions or less. That includes each of the last nine games. Coastal Carolina has won five of six games coming into the SBC Tournament.
- The Chanticleers are led by talented guard Joshua Beadle, who is averaging 17.5 points per game this season. Beadle was named the SBC Newcomer of the Year and an All-SBC First Team selection last week.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
- Georgia Southern is coached by Charlie Henry, who is in his third season as the Eagles head coach. He has a record there of 42-55.
- The Eagles are led in scoring by Tyren Moore, who is scoring 15.7 points per game. He had 23 points and nine assists in the Eagles' win over South Alabama on Friday.
- In their last four games, the Eagles have averaged 92.8 points per game with much of the damage being done on the outside.
- Georgia Southern tied the record for most 3-pointers hit in a game with 23 in the fourth round win over South Alabama on Friday. They also attempted an SBC Tourney record 44 3-pointers.
- Alden Applewhite exploded for 34 points on 11 of 12 shooting, including 8 of 9 3-point attempts in the South Alabama win. He is averaging 25.0 ppg in his last four contests to catapult Ga. Southern's run.
