Herd Softball’s Rallies Past Louisiana in Series Finale

LAFAYETTE, La. — Marshall Softball (36-14, 16-5 SBC) got a much-needed come-from-behind victory Sunday, defeating Louisiana, 3-2. The Herd trailed by a pair before a bases-clearing double by Diamond Leslie with two outs in the 5th put MU in front for good.

Leslie's clutch double was the fourth of four consecutive Marshall hitters to reach, including a key 15 pitch at-bat by Sydni Burko ending in a walk. Paige Simpson's second single up the middle started the rally while Ava Blake was hit by a pitch to load the bases, bringing Leslie to the plate.
The win for the Herd is Marshall's first at Lamson Park in Lafayette, something the team would hope for more of as the 2026 SBC Softball Tournament will be played in the stadium starting May 6.
"We are so excited, we have high expectations," said Leslie. "We have all been talking about this every single day since the start of the season."
Jules King earned the win in relief. She struck out four over the final 4.2 innings pitched. Her and starter Paige Maynard held the Cajuns to just four hits in the series finale.
UP NEXT
Marshall returns home for the final weekend of the regular season, hosting JMU starting Thursday from Dot Hicks Field on Thursday, Apr. 30.
