Started in all 55 games...named the C-USA Co-Newcomer of the Year...named the conference Co-Hitter of the Week on March 24 hitting .500 with five RBIs, one home run and three runs...hit .232 in her first year with the Thundering Herd...went 2-for-3 with a grand slam to beat UTEP March 21...three games with four RBIs...went 3-for-6 against in a two-game set with ECU with six RBIs...seven multi-hit games...eight doubles on the season.
Prior to Marshall:
Played at Pima Junior College and earned All-ACCAC First-Team infield...named NJCAA All-American First-Team...hit 21 home runs and hit .457 in second season at Prima...recorded 69 RBI and finished with an all-region team honor...in 2006 had 75 RBI and 14 home runs..designated player second-team all conference and utlity/designated player second-team all-american.
High School:
Received National Schol Athlete award for academic and athletic excellence from the US Army Reserve...earned a spot on the All-Arizona 5A Second-Team.

Full name is Kelly Charlene Nielson...born December 8, 1986...parents Pete and Linda Nielson...father is retired and mother works for the United States Postal Service...sister to formal Marshall standout Randi Nielson...four other siblings, Kris (36), Mark (30), Julie (30) and Scott (23)...biggest role model is her sister Randi ...planning to pursue a degree in business management.
