Darrin Shirk joined Marshall University as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in January 2026, bringing a comprehensive background shaped by roles across Division I athletics and a strong academic foundation.
He holds a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance with minors in Psychology and Sport Management from Heidelberg University.
A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) since 2019 and CPR/AED certified through the American Red Cross, Darrin has built a diverse coaching résumé that includes serving as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Bucknell University, where he designed and implemented programs for Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and Track & Field, integrated sport-science technology, collaborated closely with sport coaches and athletic trainers, and coached two athletes to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
His prior experience includes a Graduate Assistant position at UTEP where he led training for Men’s Golf and Cheerleading while supporting Football, Softball, and Women’s Soccer, managing GPS and performance data, and assisting with gameday operations.
He also completed performance internships at the University of Virginia and Old Dominion University, gaining extensive experience in athlete monitoring, return-to-play support, Olympic lifting instruction, sport-science technology, and daily weight-room operations. Across all roles, Darrin has demonstrated a commitment to athlete development, data-informed training, and fostering a competitive, supportive environment that maximizes student-athlete performance.
