From the time he claimed a spot at starting offensive guard as a true freshman on the 1993 Marshall football team, winning All-Southern Conference second-team honors, Aaron Ferguson was a stalwart for some of the most prolific offensive attacks in Thundering Herd history. A first team all-league selection in each of his last three seasons, helping Marshall win two Southern Conference titles and three NCAA Division I-AA national championship game appearances, by the time Ferguson was a senior he won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the Southern Conference’s top offensive lineman as well as consensus All-America honors for his work during Marshall’s 1996 undefeated championship season. Ferguson’s 56 consecutive starts tied him with former teammate Chris Deaton for the most in school history. The Blountville, Tenn., native also played first base and pitched for the Marshall baseball team. Ferguson was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
