LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Marshall Women's Soccer (4-2-2) is heading into Sun Belt Conference play with a season-high four goals from four different scorers. The Herd won its second match on the road this season with the 4-2 win Sunday night at Bellarmine (1-4-1).
First half goals from Izzy Young and Wiktoria Mikrut gave the Herd a two goal advantage going into the break. After a Bellarmine goal in the 54th minute, the Herd responded with two strikes in three minutes - a Geovanna Souza 70th minute strike, before Souza's corner kick cross met Maria Chaves in the 72nd minute.

Chaves now has two goals off a corner kick this season, and the Herd has scored three corner kick goals this season for Head Coach Rafa Simoes.
"I'm really proud of the team's performance today and especially proud of the way we competed on the road against a very good Bellarmine team," Coach Simoes said. "They're a tough opponent, and I believe they're going to have a great season in their conference. It was a great final test for us before conference play."
"It was also great to see Izzy Young score her first goal in the Marshall shirt," Simoes added. "I'm really happy for her. It was such a nice goal, and she deserves that moment. One of the things I'm most proud of is how many different players are impacting games for us. Katia was outstanding today, and I was really pleased with her performance. Having so many players step up and contribute is a great sign for our team."
The four goals are the most for a Coach Simoes-led side in a road contest. The outburst also broke the team out of a mini-offensive slump where the team played to a goalless draw against Murray State, before being held by No. 7 West Virginia.
Reigning SBC Defensive Player of the Week Emma Durand made three saves in net.
The Herd's next contest will be against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. from Hoops Family Field. For tickets to the conference opener, click HERE.
"Now we turn our attention to the Sun Belt," added Coach Simoes. "We're excited to open conference play at home against Louisiana Tech, and we're looking forward to having our supporters behind us again. They've created an incredible home environment for us, and we expect another great crowd and atmosphere next week."
