Herd Women’s Soccer Plays to Draw in SBC Opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall Women's Soccer (4-2-3, 0-0-1 SBC) played to a 1-1 draw Saturday night against Louisiana Tech at Hoops Family Field. A Julia Micagcz 33rd minute goal had the Herd in front, but a second half Bulldogs tally left the two sides sharing the points on the opening night of conference play.

The Herd was the more threatening side statistically, outshooting the visitors, 22-9 with a pair of shots off the woodwork. MU forced nine legitimate saves from the La Tech keeper, including a first half saved penalty kick on Marshall's leading scorer Wiktoria Mikrut.
"We are proud of the performance, we produced 22 shots - two off the cross bar and a missed PK," said Coach Simoes. "Soccer is like that, but if we didn't score we shouldn't concede, we should have put it 2-0 but we did not and keep them alive in the game. We dropped two points, but are still undefeated at home. We are proud of the performance but we know what we are going to work on this week with finishing."

Migacz's goal was her first with the Herd. Eight different Marshall players have tallied a goal this season. Her Polish teammate Wiktoria Mikrut added an assist to her strong offensive season.
With a point in the conference standings, Marshall will now travel to Troy on Thursday, September 24 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
