HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall's Wiktoria Mikrut has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Year, the league announced its postseason awards on Thursday.

Mikrut has additionally been named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team.

As a newcomer to the Division I level, Mikrut has scored a team-leading seven goals with three assists for Marshall this season. Her 17 points are tied for 8th in the league, with her 1.06 points per game average in the Top-6 in the SBC. A transfer from NJCAA Monroe University, Mikrut has been a consistent force for the Herd up front, with 54 shots, tied for 7th-most in the Sun Belt Conference. Her 20 shots on target are 8th in the league.

Mikrut was named the SBC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1 following a week where she scored a hat trick and tallied a match-winning assist. Mikrut's hat trick was Marshall's 11th all-time, and it accounted for all three of the goals the Herd scored in the match. Mikrut's match-winning assist was delivered off a corner. All three of the assists for the Polish striker proved consequential, with an assist in MU's 1-1 draw with Louisiana Tech, and a go-ahead assist in the team's 2-1 win over JMU, also from a set piece.

With a match-winning goal in a conference match against ULM, all of Mikrut's goals have come in a win or a draw for the Herd. Mikrut has played over 1,100 minutes this season, playing an important role for Coach Rafa Simoes' side as a newcomer.

"Wiktoria is a very selfless player, she always plays for the team," said Coach Simoes. "It is hard to find a true 'target-nine' these days and she gave us that this season, so we are very grateful for her. We came into the season hoping to have her and Bailey Fisher up front, not having Bailey we had only her as a set 'target-nine' we threw her to the wolves a little bit as a junior college transfer. The opportunity came to her a little bit earlier than we predicted and she stepped up to the occasion."
