  • Class:
    1956
Entering Marshall after three years of military service, Bill Harris made the most of his time wearing the Green and White. The Spencer, W.Va., native earned seven varsity letters in his time with the Thundering Herd, three each in football and wrestling and another in baseball. During the era in which Marshall was entering the Mid-American Conference, Harris received All-MAC recognition twice as a tackle for the football team and also was undefeated twice in the regular season as a heavyweight wrestler, including a win over the two-time league champion Les Nader of Kent State. When his football and wrestling eligibility was complete, Harris became a catcher for the 1956 Thundering Herd baseball team. He also was a member of the Varsity Club, the Veterans’ Club and the Student Senate at Marshall. After serving as a graduate assistant coach while earning his master’s degree at Marshall he went on to a career as a teacher, coach and administrator in Cincinnati. Harris was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.
