  • Class:
    1997
From the time he arrived at Marshall University and received first team All-Southern Conference honors when he led the Thundering Herd with 12 sacks as a freshman in 1994, B.J. Cohen terrorized opposing quarterbacks throughout his Thundering Herd career. One of only two Marshall football players to receive first team all-league recognition all four years of their careers (John Zontini is the other), the defensive end from Conley, Ga., helped Marshall to two Southern Conference titles, the 1996 NCAA Division I-AA National Championship and then the 1997 Mid-American Conference Championship, after which he was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player in the inaugural Motor City Bowl. A third team All-American in 1995 and a first team All-American in 1996, Cohen set the still-standing school record with 51 career sacks. After finishing at Marshall, Cohen went on to play in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League, finishing his career as the Arena League’s all-time receptions leader among tight ends. Cohen was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. (Photo courtesy of The Herald Dispatch)
