Danny Clark
- Induction:
- 1990
- Class:
- 1949
One of 12 children in his family, Danny Clark rode his bicycle eight miles to the year’s early football practices at Barboursville High School because the buses didn’t start running until classes began. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve during World War II. When his tour of duty ended, Clark finally was able to resume playing the sport he loved, and Marshall Coach Cam Henderson inherited a grown man to play along his line. Clark missed only three games, playing on the offensive and defensive lines, during the 1946-49 seasons. His era was highlighted by a 9-3 record in 1947, including Marshall’s first bowl game, a 7-0 loss to Catawba College in the Tangerine Bowl on January 1, 1948. After completing his Marshall career, Clark spent three decades teaching and coaching in the Cabell County school system and another decade on the county’s board of education. Also an avid fisherman, he once caught a 234-pound halibut in Alaska. Clark was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.
