One of the most prolific wide receivers in Marshall history, Darius Watts helped the Thundering Herd win Mid-American Conference football championships in 2000 and 2002 before becoming a second-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos is the 2004 NFL Draft. The College Park, Ga., product finished his career as the MAC leader in receptions (272), receiving yards (4,031) and touchdown receptions (47), numbers that still rank high in the record book. Nicknamed “Spider” for his ability to make spectacular catches, Watts’ 18 touchdown catches in the 2001 season remain the most for any Thundering Herd pass catcher other than Randy Moss. Watts was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
