Glenn Hartway rewrote the Marshall swimming record book during his career from 1979-83. The Miami native set Southern Conference and Marshall records in winning the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyles. In 1981, Hartway won Southern Conference 500 and 1,650 freestyles and also the 400-yard individual medley. He helped the Herd win Southern team titles in 1981 and ‘82. Overall, he won six Southern Conference individual titles in his career. He was honored as SC Swimmer of the Year in 1981 and was runner-up for the honor the following year. He returned to the program as an assistant coach during the 1983-84 season. Hartway was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
