One of Coach Ellis Johnson’s “Iron Man Five,” Jim Davidson starred in one of the most successful stretches of Marshall basketball history, including consecutive trips to Madison Square Garden for the National Invitation Tournament in 1967 and 1968. The Logan, W. Va., native scored 1,240 points in three seasons with the Marshall varsity during the era when freshmen were ineligible for NCAA competition, averaging 20.2 points per game for the five NIT games in which he played. Davidson, who had won three West Virginia state high school long jump championships, also competed on the Marshall track and field team. After completing his Marshall career, he returned to his native Logan County as a teacher and coach for more than 30 years. Davidson was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
