  • Induction:
    2008
  • Class:
    1988
After winning the 1983 Ohio State AAA golf championship for Cloverleaf High School in Lodi, Tom Kies’ college recruiters included Ohio State and Ole Miss, but Marshall and Coach Joe Feaganes won the battle for his services. Shortly after arriving at Marshall Kies, whose father owned the Knollbrook Golf Course in his hometown, told his coach that he would win All-America honors by his junior year – a prediction that missed by a year as he didn’t receive those honors until his senior season. Kies won All-Southern Conference honors three times as he led the Thundering Herd in stroke average his last three seasons, winning medalist honors at the 1987 Augusta Invitational and the 1988 University of Kentucky Invitational. Following his Marshall career Kies played professionally on the Nike and South African Tours before returning home to serve as superintendent of the family golf course. He was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
