One of the most decorated defensive players in Marshall football history, William King starred at linebacker for the 1992 Marshall Division I-AA national champions as a junior and then won consensus All-America honors and was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1993. The Charleston, W.Va., native won two Class AAA state championships as a quarterback for Charleston and then Capital high schools, then harassed offenses to the tune of 443 career tackles at Marshall, including 178 as a senior, still the second-highest total for a season in Marshall history. After a stint in the Canadian Football League, King turned to a career in college coaching. He was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
