Batey Named Runner of the Week

Huntington, WV - Marshall cross country runner Casey Batey (Milton, WV/Cabell-Midland) has been named the Mid-American Conference runner of the week for his performance at the McDonalds Bobcat Invitational in Athens, OH last Saturday. It is the first time a Marshall runner has been given the honor in the Herd's two seasons since returning to the MAC.
Batey's time of 24:52 for 8,000 meters was the Herd's fastest time of the season, and was good enough for first place at the event. The performance was a new meet record and tied the previous course record. It was the second time this season the sophomore has won an event. He posted a first-place clocking of 25:47 at the Wright State Invitational on September 19.
The team finished second overall at the event, which was won by host Ohio University, with 77 points. The Bobcats finished with a total of 23.
Marshall is next in action October 17 when they run at the Duquesne Invitational in Pittsuburgh, PA.
