Hargrave Military Academy's Renardo Dixon Signs With Marshall
11/16/2001
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Men?s Basketball Coach Greg White announced today that Renardo Dixon, a standout center at Hargrave Military Academy, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd.
?Renardo is a six-foot-nine, 200-pound center whose upside is simply phenomenal,? White said. ?His athleticism is second to no one in high school and I predict he will be a dominant force in the Mid-American Conference in a short period of time.?
Dixon chose Marshall over such schools as Texas, Tulane, New Mexico, Western Kentucky, and Virginia Tech.
?I visited Marshall on an unofficial visit and fell in love with everything,? Dixon said. ?The community support, the players and coaching staff were unbelievable.?
Dixon currently averages around 16 points and eight rebounds per game for Hargrave.
?Renardo is a big time athlete who runs the floor extremely well,? Hargrave Head Coach Mike Preston said. ?He is one of the most underrated post players in the country. I have six guys signing early and Renardo has the most potential of all of them.?
Dixon joins West Virginia native Mark Patton as Marshall?s first two signees of the early period. Patton, a 6-9 forward from Cabell-Midland signed with Marshall Wednesday.
?The timing of Renardo and Mark coming to Marshall is perfect with our front line losses following this season,? White said. ?Renardo?s skill level has taken off and his greatest skill, I believe, is his shot blocking ability. We are just thrilled to have him.?
The native of Houston, Texas, also liked Marshall because of the university?s academic offerings and family atmosphere.
?The support system academically was a big key,? said Dixon. ?Marshall will provide me with a great opportunity to work on my skills on the court and to work towards my degree.?
The Thundering Herd expects to sign additional players through the signing period.
