Hargrave's Robert Strickland Signs With Marshall Basketball

11/18/2001

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Men?s Basketball Coach Greg White announced today that Robert Strickland has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd.

?Robert is strong, athletic, and knows how to play,? White said. ?He can play the post or on the wing and can run and jump with anyone. Robert has a tremendous personality and the Huntington community will love him.?

Strickland is a six-foot-six, 220-pound forward out of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. He averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game last season and joins Renardo Dixon as the second Hargrave athlete to sign with Marshall.

?I am very excited about going to Marshall,? Strickland said. ?This is a great opportunity for me academically and athletically. Out of all the schools recruiting me, Marshall was the best fit.?

Strickland also received interest from James Madison, Old Dominion, Appalachian State, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky, East Carolina, Hampton and Siena.

?Robert is an extremely good athlete and a very hard worker on both ends of the court. He is relentless,? Hargrave Head Coach Mike Preston said. ?He is the type of player that does all of the little things for a team. I think he?s got a chance to be a tremendous player for Marshall.?

The addition of Strickland, brings the number of Marshall?s 2002-2003 signees to three. Cabell Midland?s Mark Patton and Hargrave?s Renardo Dixon have already signed with the Herd.
