HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University placed six players in double-digits scoring, led by senior center J.R. VanHoose?s 21 points, en route to a 96-46 win over Shepherd College in men?s college basketball action Monday.

?Obviously they (Shepherd) was overmatched tonight,? Marshall head coach Greg White said. ?So much of basketball is confidence and you don?t gain confidence if you are not winning. Tonight, we got a chance to play a lot of guys, and I feel that our players did a great job of staying in the frame work of what we wanted to do.?

Marshall (1-3) got 11 points from Latece Williams (Senior/Forward/Rome, Ga.), 17 points from Tamar Slay (Senior/Guard/Beckley, W.Va.), 16 points from Enoch Bunch (Freshman/Guard/Nashville, Tenn.), 11 points from Ronny Dawn (Freshman/Guard/Ft. Thomas, Ky.), and 10 points from freshman forward Keith Archie.

In addition to the double-digit scoring totals, two Marshall players recorded ?double-doubles.? Bunch added a career-high 11 assists and Williams pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.

?Enoch played a great game tonight,? White said. ?I thought both our freshmen guards did a good job.?

Shepherd (0-2) was led by Ryan Jones?s 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Division-II Rams were out-matched from the start. Marshall built a 48-19 halftime lead by hitting on 54% of its shots from the field, while limiting the Rams to a meager 26% shooting in the half. For the game, the Thundering Herd shot 57.6% (38-66) from the field to Shepherd?s 31.6% (18-57).

?We always play at least one small college school and we feel that we should play a West Virginia school if we can,? White said.

Marshall out-rebounded Shepherd 37 to 35 and forced 23 Ram turnovers, while turning the ball over only 11 times. The Thundering Herd also emptied its bench, giving Frank Simpson, Joe Dressel, and Keith Archie all career-highs for minutes played.
