KENT, Ohio (AP) -- Byron Leftwich ran for one score and passed for 333 yards and three touchdowns as Marshall beat Kent State 42-21 on Saturday.

The victory was the seventh in a row for the Thundering Herd (7-1, 4-0 Mid-American Conference). Kent State (4-5, 2-3) was seeking its first four-game winning streak since 1976 and its first five-win season since 1988.

Marshall has scored at least 34 points in every game since losing its opener at Florida, 49-14.

Leftwich completed 24-of-34 passes and was intercepted twice. His scoring passes covered 9 and 24 yards to Darius Watts and 23 yards to Curtis Jones.

Leftwich had passed for at least 400 yards in his last three games.

Two of Leftwich's receivers topped 100 yards. Denero Marriott had eight catches for 110 yards; Watts 107 yards on eight receptions.

Trod Buggs rushed for 107 yards on 13 carries for the Herd, while Franklin Wallace scored on a 2-yard run, Brandon Carey on a 10-yard run and Leftwich added a 2-yard keeper for a touchdown.

Quarterback Joshua Cribbs completed 17-of-29 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown for Kent State. He also ran for 159 yards on 20 carries.

Marshall had 605 total yards; the Golden Flashes 448.

The victory for Marshall sets the stage for a showdown for the MAC East Division crown next week with Miami. The Redhawks remained unbeaten in MAC play with a 24-21 victory over Bowling Green Saturday night.

The Herd and RedHawks will tangle next weekend in Oxford with a spot in the MAC title game riding on the outcome. Kickoff for the game on Nov. 10 is set for noon EST. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net.
