Basketball Doubleheader Thursday Night
11/7/2001
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The Marshall University men?s and women?s basketball teams will host a doubleheader Tuesday, November 7 in the Cam Henderson Center. The women will take on Salem International at 5:00 p.m. and the men will play host to EA Sports East All-Stars at 7:30 p.m.
EA Sports is a traveling team that features a strong group of former collegiate stars. Players on the team include former Notre Dame?s Keith Tower (6?10, center), UAB standout Eric Holmes (6?4,guard) and Shawn Bankhead (6?7, forward) from Iowa State. The team has already competed against the likes of Louisville, Xavier, Princeton, Tennessee and Rutgers.
?This is a talented team,? said Marshall men?s coach Greg White. ?This EA Sports squad is very athletic and well organized. They will be a challenge for us. They were tied with four minutes to go in their game at Xavier and thats all I need to know.?
This will be the Thundering Herd?s last exhibition game before heading into next week?s NABC Classic in Lexington, Ky. Marshall won its first exhibition against Worldwide Basketball?s Kentucky Cat?s, 112-76 on Monday.
Marshall?s women fell to the Ohio Legends, 87-80, in their exhibition opener. The Legends featured players from the WNBA. Au?Yana Ferguson led the Herd with 22 points 9 rebounds in that contest.
Salem International, an NCAA Division II squad out of the West Virginia Conference, features a young squad. The Tiger roster is filled with 10 freshmen, two seniors, and one junior.
Fans attending the women?s game at 5 p.m. (admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children) can move to the general admission seating following the women?s exhibition and watch the men?s game for free. Normal ticket pricing will be in effect for fans attending the men?s game.
