MOBILE, Ala.- Marquis Daniels scored 19 points, hitting a perfect seven-of-seven shots from the floor, to lead Auburn University to a 78-60 victory over Marshall University in the nightcap of the Coors Classic doubleheader Saturday at the University of South Alabama.
Auburn (5-3) opened the second half with a 28-7 run that broke a 32-32 halftime tie.
The Tigers connected on 53% of their shots for the game. Auburn recorded 48 points in the paint, 24 of which came from slam dunks. The Tigers also forced 26 Marshall turnovers in the contest.
In addition to Daniels' MVP performance, Auburn received 15 points from Brandon Robinson.
Marshall (5-4) was led by J.R. VanHoose. The 6-10 senior from Paintsville, Ky., recorded the 43rd double-double of his collegiate career by scoring a team-high 16 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. The Thundering Herd's Enoch Bunch scored 14 points, Latece Williams 11, and Tamar Slay 10.
Bunch had a career-shooting night hitting on four of five three point attempts. The redshirt freshman was a perfect three for three from behind the arc in the first half and led the team in scoring at the break.
Marshall will look to get back on track next Saturday at Western Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
