STILLWATER, OK.--The Marshall women's basketball team dropped to 4-4 on the season, when the Oklahoma State Cowgirls beat the Thundering Herd, 78-58, Friday night at the Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Marshall trailed by only two at the half, but the Cowgirls outscored the Herd 42-24 in the second half to turn a close game into a runaway for OSU.

"In the first half, we executed exceptionally well, both offensively and defensively," said Marshall coach Royce Chadwick. "But in the second half, we couldn't get our offense going to counter their offensive surge. Even though we lost, I think our team realized what we can do if we play 40 minutes of good basketball."

The Herd trailed by two, 36-34, at the half, after Andrea Fitzgerald's bucket dropped in as the buzzer sounded. In a very competitive game, fans saw the lead change three times, and the score tied four times. Ida Dotson scored a game-high 14 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. The MAC's best shooting team continued to make shots, knocking down half of its shots in the first half.

The second half was a different story. OSU began the second half by outscoring the Herd 15-4, with nine of those coming from Tari Cummings. The Cowgirls continued to dominate the Herd, and with 7:34 to go, Marshall trailed 60-43. The visitors could never recover after the early second half spurt.

OSU was paced by Cummings' 17 points. Trisha Skibbe added 16, and Nikki Lawrence poured in 11 in the winning effort.

Marshall had three players in double-figures, including Dotson, who had a game-high 19 points. Cassie Hackworth and Andrea Fitzgerald each added 10.

Marshall has a week off, and then return to action against Morehead State in the Eastern Kentucky University Comfort Suites Classic on December 29th. That game tips off at 2 p.m.
