8/30/2001
Huntington, WV- Marshall University women?s soccer will begin its season on Friday, August 31 against the University of Kentucky. The team will travel to Lexington, KY for the match that will begin at 7:00 p.m.
?We are excited to open the season with an opponent the caliber of Kentucky. I feel we?ve had a very productive preseason and we are ready to get the 2001 season underway,? said Marshall Head Coach Teresa Patterson of the upcoming contest.
Marshall has played in two exhibition contests on the season, with a record of 0-1-1. On August 18, the team battled Radford University to a 1-1 tie. Lindsey Jayjack scored the lone goal for the Herd. Marshall then fell 1-0 in a hard fought contest at the University of Cincinnati.
The Thundering Herd returns all 11 starters from last year?s 8-10-1 squad, including First Team All Mid-American-Conference performer Amanda McMahon. McMahon rewrote the Marshall record books last season as a true freshman, recording a school record 32 points and 14 goals.
Kentucky finished 15-6 last season and returns two All-SEC performers in Keri Boyce and Elizabeth Ramsey. The Wildcats have played one exhibition contest this season, downing Wright State 3-0.
Marshall opens the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 3:00 p.m. against IUPUI at Sam Hood Field on the Marshall campus.
