9/30/2001

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall University women?s soccer team routed Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne 7-0 at Sam Hood Field on Sunday. Marshall (5-4, 1-2) outshot IUPFW (2-8) 23-10.

Senior midfielder Erin Steinke (Cincinnati, OH) kicked off the scoring with a goal off of a penalty kick in the 24th minute. It was all Herd from there, with Marshall scoring three goals in the next five minutes.

?This game gave us a great opportunity to work on our runs in the attacking third,? Steinke said. ?Now we look ahead to Ball State.?

Marshall has allowed only six goals in nine matches so far this season. The Herd has also racked up five shutouts.

?I thought we played very well in the back today and we also played great as a team,? sophomore defender Stacy Wells (Monroe, OH) said.

Amanda McMahon (Stillwater, MN) had two goals on the afternoon, along with an assist. Erin Steinke also added another goal to move her total on the day to two. Michelle Losekamp (Arlington, TX), Danielle Lowther (Grand Haven, MI) and Ellerie Karl (Oakwood, OH) also chipped in a goal apiece for the Herd.

The Thundering Herd return to action on Friday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. They will take on Ball State University in a Mid-American Conference contest at Sam Hood Field.
