Herd Tennis Drops First Match of Season to Ranked Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Marshall University tennis team competed today against the University of Kentucky. Kentucky defeated the Herd 6-1.
Playing no. 1 for the Herd was Jessica Johnson (sophomore/Sweickley, PA). Johnson was defeated by Sarah Witten, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
At the no. 2 spot, Anna Mitina (senior/Sochi, Russia) was defeated by Lauren Rookledge, 6-4, 6-2.
Amy Trefethen defeated Alice Sukner (sophomore/Pittsburgh,Pa.), 6-4, 6-4, at the no. 3 spot.
At no. 4 singles, Lille Nzudie (freshman/Cameroon) lost to Leigh Bradwell, 6-3, 7-6.
In the no. 5 spot Danielle Hock (freshman/Wiggin, England) was defeated Jill Buckley, 6-0, 6-1.
Ashley Kroh (freshman/Louisville, Ky) won the only match for the Herd. She defeated Ola Luczak, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
Kentucky claimed the doubles point claiming all three matches. In no.1 doubles Rookledge/Bradwell defeated Johnson/Mitina, 8-4. In the no. 2 spot, Trefethen Buckley defeated Sukner/Kroh, 8-0. Stafford/Witten defeated Hock/Meghan Skalsky (sophomore/East Lansing, MI), 8-4 in no. 3 doubles.
The Herd will be on the road again next weekend when they travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on The University of Virginia Caveliers and the Tribe of William & Mary. Both Virginia and William & Mary received spots in the ITA preseason rankings.
