Marshall?s Ida Dotson Named To Preseason All-Mac Team

10/10/2002

Cleveland, Ohio?Ida Dotson became the first Marshall player to be named to an All-MAC team since 1999 when she was selected to the preseason All-MAC East Division team, announced today by the Mid-American Conference office in Cleveland. Kristina Behnfeldt, the only Marshall basketball player to ever score 2,000 points and have 1,000 rebounds, was a first team All-MAC selection after the 1999 season.

Along with Dotson, these were the other players selected from the East Division: Kent State's Andrea Csaszar, Miami's Heather Cusick, Buffalo's Jessica Kochendorfer and Kent State's Valerie Zona.

In the West Division, the members are: Ball State's Tamara Bowie, Toledo's Tia Davis, Western Michigan's Kristin Koetsier, Bowling Green's Francine Miller and Northern Illinois' Jennifer Youngblood. Bowie, Koetsier and Miller were all members on last year's preseason all-MAC team.

?We are very excited for Ida, our team, and Marshall University,? said Marshall coach Royce Chadwick. ?She is very deserving, and it is great that we have that kind of representation from our team.?

The 5?9 senior guard from Tombstone, Arizona, averaged 13.6 points per game, tops for the Thundering Herd last season and 12th in the MAC. She also ranked in the top 15 in the league in steals (2.11, T5th) and assists (2.86, T15th). Dotson paced Marshall in scoring in 15 of the team's 28 games last year.

In the spring of 2002, Dotson was named to womenscollegehoops.com?s All-Underrated team, an award given to a list of players not named to any of the three All-American teams. She was also awarded the Most Outstanding Deaf Adult award in Huntington by Quota International of Huntington this spring. That award is given to someone who has raised awareness for the deaf and for their leadership and community influence.

Marshall opens exhibition play on Sunday, November 10th, against West Virginia Tech. Tip time is slated for 6 p.m.
