Patterson Resigns As Women?s Soccer Coach

11/6/2002

Teresa Patterson

Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum announced today that women?s soccer coach Teresa Patterson has resigned her position, effective immediately.

?We are all sad to see Teresa leave the program she helped get off the ground,? Marcum said. ?The women?s soccer program has made great strides in just five seasons, and Teresa has been a force behind those strides. We wish her nothing but the best.?

Patterson, a native of Largo, Fla., was selected in 1997 to start the Marshall women?s soccer program. She leaves Marshall having put together a five-year record of 35-46-8.

?I am proud of the foundation we have laid for women?s soccer here at Marshall University,? Patterson said. ?I just felt it was the right time for me to move on to explore other professional opportunities.

?I am looking forward to continuing my education and exploring other career opportunities.?

Under Patterson, the women?s soccer team had a banner season in 2001, posting an overall record of 11-7-1 and a Mid-American Conference mark of 7-4-1. The 2001 team had a pair of first-team All-MAC selections.

This past season the team?s overall record slipped to 6-9-2 and the league mark fell to 3-7-2.

The search for a new women?s soccer coach will begin immediately.
