Basketball Set to Renew its Rivalry With Morehead State
12/16/2002
Marshall?s men?s basketball team will renew one of the school?s oldest rivalries when it travels to Morehead, Ky., to take on Morehead State University Tuesday. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be televised by the Thundering Herd/ISP network (WSAZ-TV in the Huntington-Charleston area).
After a three-year hiatus, Marshall and Morehead State will meet for the 89th time. Only Marshall?s series with the University of Charleston (107 games) and Ohio University (88 meetings) compare in length.
The Thundering Herd (4-1, 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference) is coming off of a 90-65 thumping of Radford, while the Eagles (3-3, 0-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference) is looking to rebound after a 74-60 loss at Ohio State. All three of Morehead?s losses have come on the road, with the first setback being a three-point loss at Arizona State (59-56).
Both teams feature high-scoring threats. Marshall is paced by junior guard Ronald Blackshear, who averages 21 points a game. Morehead State is led by junior guard/forward Ricky Minard who scores 21.3 points a game and leads the Eagles with 6.8 rebounds per game.
