Marshall Hosts Western Carolina Friday

Marshall University?s men?s basketball team will host Western Carolina Friday night at the Cam Henderson Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Marshall (4-2, 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference) will be looking to bounce back after a 101-100 overtime loss at Morehead State on Tuesday night, while Western Carolina (3-4) is coming off of an 82-52 loss at West Virginia University on Wednesday night.

Western Carolina features one of the most prolific scorers in the nation in sophomore Kevin Martin who averages 25.8 ppg. Last season, the Zanesville, Ohio, native, averaged more than 22 points per game to finish second in the nation in scoring among freshmen.

The Thundering Herd currently features five players averaging double figures in scoring and has four players averaging 4.7 or more rebounds per game. Marshall is led by junior Ronald Blackshear?s 21.3 points per game.

The game marks the first time since Marshall?s departure from the Southern Conference in 1997, that the Thundering Herd will face off with the Catamounts. Marshall and WCU have met on the hardwood 41 times and MU holds a 28-13 edge in the series. Marshall topped Western Carolina in their last meeting, a 96-76 win in Huntington during the 1996-97 campaign. The Catamounts last win in the series was a 125-104 victory over Billy Donovan?s 1995-96 Thundering Herd squad.
