Men's Basketball Travels to UMass
12/26/2002
Marshall University's men's basketball team travels to Amherst, Mass., to take on the University of Massachusetts Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. and the game will be televised by the Thundering Herd/ISP network (WSAZ in Charleston/Huntington).
The Minutemen (3-6) are coming off of a 76-54 win over Rider and appear to be putting the pieces togeother following a brutal early season schedule that included games against the likes of Indiana, Utah, Boston College, and Connecticut. The Minutemen are led in scoring by Jackie Rogers. The six-foot-eight senior forward is scoring 11.9 points per game. Six-foot-eleven senior center Micah Brand is recording 9.8 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.
Marshall (5-2) is looking for its fourth win over the Minutemen in five tries. Marshall holds a 3-1 lead in the series that began in 1997. UMass edged Marshall in Amherst, 61-59, in 1997 and Marshall has not lost to the Minutemen since, reeling off three straight, including an 81-66 win in Huntington last season.
