Tennis Team Grabs Two Wins

The Marshall University women?s tennis team defeated Pittsburgh 7-0 and West Virginia 7-0 today at the Huntington Tennis club.
In the WVU match the Herd won all seven matches. At No. 1 doubles Anna Mitina and Alice Sukner defeated Lauren Haddix and Courtney Howell 8-2. Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh defeated Anna Marie Underwood and Jennifer Watkins 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. At the No. 3 spot Lille Nzudi and Megan Skalsky defeated Emma Jeremiejzcyk and Maria Binder 8-2. In singles, Johnson claimed the No. 1 spot by defeating Howell 6-1, 6-3. Mitina defeated Haddix to claim the No 2 spot 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3 singles Sukner defeated Underwood 6-0, 6-0. Good won at No. 4 singles by defeating Watkins 6-2, 6-0. Nzudi defeated Binder at the No. 5 spot 6-0, 6-1. Danielle Hock claimed the No. 6 spot by defeating Jeremiejzcyk 7-5, 6-0.
Against Pittsburgh the Herd won straight matches. At the No. 1 spot Mitina and Sukner defeated Jill Williams and Nikki Borza 8-0. Johnson and Kroh defeated Laura Pegula and Brooke Yablowski 8-1, at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 doubles Good and Hock defeated Hayley Hughes and Jen Fiore 8-1. At No. 1 singles, Johnson defeated Williams 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Mitina defeated Borza 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Good defeated Pegula at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-0. Nzudi claim the No. 4 spot by defeating Fiore 6-2, 6-0. Danielle Hock defeated Yablowski 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Skalsky claimed No. 6 singles by defeating Hayley Hughes 6-1, 6-3.
The Herd is now 4-3 overall on the season and 0-0 in Mid-American Conference play. The next match will be in Chapel Hill, NC next Sunday, March 3 at noon when the Herd takes on the North Carolina Tarheels.
