Softball Bows Out of Triple Crown Classic

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- The Marshall University softball team dropped its fifth game of the season to Florida A&M University 3-1 on Saturday night at Treaty Field. The Herd was eliminated from the UCF Triple Crown Tournament with the loss.
?We were obviously disappointed with our showing this weekend because we feel like we have the best team we?ve ever had here,? head coach Shonda Stanton said. ?We just did not execute.?
The Thundering Herd (0-5) started the game off on the right foot, scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning. Sophomore Sierra Davenport (Tucson, AZ) laced a hit and later came in to score on an RBI sacrifice fly by Vanessa Clarkson (Moreno Valley, CA).
Florida A&M (3-4) came right back to score a run in the top of the second inning on a pair of base hits. The Rattlers then took the lead in the top of the third when their leadoff batter drew a walk and came around to score on a base hit.
The Rattlers managed to tack on another run in the top of the seventh.
Marshall wasn?t able to push any more runs across the plate as they fell to A&M 3-1. Sophomore Sarah Chamberlain (Moses Lake, WA) was charged with the loss after giving up only three hits in four innings of work.
The Herd returns to action on Feb. 22 when they travel to Athens, GA, to compete in the University of Georgia Bulldog Classic.
