Sydni Burko Becomes Marshall Softball’s Sixth All-American

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Softball's Sydni Burko has been named an All-American by D1Softball, putting a bow on a historic season for the Herd's sophomore infielder.
As a Second Team member, Burko is the lone position player on the list from a non-autonomy conference. The full Second Team list can be viewed HERE. The full First Team list can be viewed HERE.
Burko is the sixth player in program history to be named an All-American. She joins the elite category of Rachel Folden (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), Jordan Dixon (2017), Mya Stevenson (2022), Autumn Owen (2023), and her head coach, Morgan Zerkle (2017).
"No doubt Burko belongs on this list as one of the top hitters in the country and THE best mid-major hitter," said Coach Zerkle. "What makes her even more special is her humility and genuine appreciation for Marshall University Softball."
Burko - the native of Ona who came home to Marshall this season as a transfer - was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-Conference member, as well as NFCA Third Team All-Region. Her 24 home runs this season are a new program record, Top-10 nationally, and led the SBC.
The Herd will return all six of its postseason accolade recipients next season. Burko was the catalyst of a team which hit a program-record 95 home runs, 89 of which came from players who remain on the roster ahead of the 2027 season.
