ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- The Marshall University softball team (0-4) dropped two games in the UCF Triple Crown Classic at Treaty Field on Saturday. The Thundering fell to the University of Georgia 6-0 before losing a nail biter to Stetson University 2-1.

?We have to string some hits together,? head coach Shonda Stanton said. ?We can?t win ball games without executing offensively.?

In the first contest Marshall faced an undefeated Georgia team (8-0), losing by a deceptive 6-0 mark. The Herd was over-powered by Georgia?s quickness and experience as the Bulldogs played their eighth game on the season.

Georgia hurler Nicole Urban held Marshall to only three hits in the contest as the Herd?s offensive woes continued. Marshall?s tough defense held the game close until the 5th inning when the Bulldogs exploded for three runs.

De?Shaun Drake (Spring Valley, Calif.), Nikki Wilcox (Lake Forest, Calif.) and Dana Black (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) each had a hit for the Herd.

Freshman Randi Neilson (Tucson, Ariz.) received the loss for Marshall after giving up only six hits and striking out six batters.

Marshall immediately returned to the field to face Stetson (5-2). The Thundering Herd found themselves down early after allowing a run in the top of the first inning.

Marshall battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth after Nichole Corrigan (Corona, Calif.) was knocked in on a single by Black. The game remained deadlocked at one until Stetson?s Holly Burris stroked a home run to put the Hatters up 2-1 in the top of the sixth.

The Herd rallied to put runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn?t pull off the comeback and fell 2-1.

Wilcox went two-for-three to lead the Herd at the plate.
