Women's Soccer to Host WVU in Exhibition
8/22/2002
Huntington, w. va.--The Marshall University women?s soccer team will kick off its 2002 season with an exhibition match against West Virginia University. The match is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Sam Hood Field.
?Our exhibition game vs. West Virginia should be a good opportunity for us to learn more about our group,? head coach Teresa Patterson said. WVU has been listed in the top twenty-five in many preseason soccer polls. They are a very attack oriented team. Throughout preseason we have changed our system in order make bigger commitment to score. There is no doubt this will be a very exciting match for our fans.?
The Thundering Herd is anxious to get the 2002 season rolling, as the team returns nine starters from last season?s 11-7-1 squad. Marshall will be looking for a breakout year as the team has made tremendous strides each of its previous four seasons, including leading the Mid-American Conference in several categories and a fifth place regular season finish last season. The Herd will be in the hunt for a MAC title in 2002 after being picked fourth in the preseason coaches poll.
