1/2/2003
Lexington, Ky.--The Kentucky Wildcats defeated the Marshall women?s basketball team, 75-42, Thursday evening at Rupp Arena in Lexington. UK improves to 7-4, while the Thundering Herd drop to 4-6.
Playing in Rupp Arena for the first time since 1995 did not affect the Wildcats one bit shooting the ball, as Kentucky shot 51.9% (27-52) from the floor, and an amazing 69.2% (9-13) from three-point land. UK had four players score in double-figures, including 15 from 6?3 post player SeSe Helm.
Marshall was outplayed from the opening whistle, as the Wildcats opened up a 23-13 lead early on a decisive 10-2 run. UK led 34-18 at the half, and saw their lead expand to 35 points (75-30) as time ran out in regulation.
?We didn?t play well on either end of the floor tonight,? said Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick. ?You?ve got to give Kentucky credit. They outmuscled us all night in the paint and converted our turnovers into points in the open floor.?
Ida Dotson was the only Herd player in double-figures with ten points. Catie Knable added nine rebounds for Marshall.
Also scoring in double-figures for Kentucky was Sara Potts, who added 14 points, Jennifer Humphrey, who chipped in ten, and Racquel Ellis, who scored 11 points.
Marshall returns to action Tuesday night, January 8th, against Buffalo in their first Mid-American Conference game of the year. Tip-time is set for a 7 p.m. start.
