MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- Marshall senior Sarah Gupton (Richmond, Ind.) scored with less than two minutes remaining to give the Herd a needed Mid-American Conference win over Central Michigan, 3-2, in women's soccer on Sunday.
Gupton took an assist from sophomore Cara Hemmerich (Dublin, Ohio) and senior Ellerie Karl (Oakwood, Ohio) in the 88th minute as Marshall snagged their second road conference win of the year.
"We're still alive," head coach Chris Kane said. "We never quit...never gave up.
We didn't play extremely well but we played with heart and we got the win."
In addition to Gupton, Hemmerich and senior Stacy Wells (Monroe, Ohio) also notched goals in the game.
The Herd entered halftime up 2-0.
"We played as a team," Kane said. "I am not particulary happy about our second half today.
We pulled out the win though."
Senior Danielle Lowther (Grand Haven,Mich.) had an impressive day as well, contributing two helpers as the Herd moved to 2-11-1 (2-6-0 MAC).
In her second game after sitting out three weeks with a broken finger, Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) shined at goal with eight saves.
The Herd returns home for the final four matches of the regular season.
They will take on the Cardinals of Ball State Friday, October 17.
The game will begin at 7 p.m.
