HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Toledo goalie Tracey Lehman had six saves to keep UT's Mid American Conference playoff hopes alive on Friday night at Sam Hood Field as the Rockets took down the Herd 1-0.
Marshall outshot Toledo 15-7, the largest margin in the plus column for the Herd this season.
"That's the story of the season...we have a tough time scoring," head coach Chris Kane said. "You got to give UT credit, they played hard."
Toledo forward Casey Staples knocked in her first goal of the season nearly 15 minutes into the second half off a Kelly Langenbeck assist ten feet out for the first and only score of the game.
Senior Danielle Lowther (Grand Haven, MI) led all Marshall shooters with four.
Junior goalkeeper Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) gave up one goal and managed three saves in 90 minutes of work.
Marshall drops to 2-14-1 (2-8-0 MAC) while Toledo will head to Ohio University with a record of 8-9-0 (5-6-0 MAC).
The Herd will look to regroup for their last match of the year on Sunday against Bowling Green. It will be Senior Day at Sam Hood Field.
"Our seniors need to be emotional to get the win on Sunday," Kane said. "It has been a tough year, but the team has played better.
We need to finish strong on Sunday."
The game will kickoff at 12 p.m. and is part of a double header with the men's team.
