Herd Splits Tri-Meet

RADFORD, Va. - The Marshall Unversity Women's Swimming and Diving team split a tri-meet today by defeating Radford 193-100 and falling to Gardner-Webb 152-135 at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.

Leading the Herd were junior Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) and sophomore Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland). Nilsson had first place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:34.72) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.36). Kuurto placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.97) and the 400-yard IM (4:36.28). Nilsson, Kuurto, Cara Davison (Chesterton, Ind.) and Liisa Raty (Espoo, Finland) placed first in he 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.79).

Casey Mulholland (Stone Mountain, Ga.) placed first in both 1-meter diving (209.47) and 3-meter diving (227.55).

Leading Gardner-Webb was Lisa Fry. Fry had first place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.23), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.43) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.30).

Radford swept the backstroke events with Kelly Wallace winning the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.46) and Julie Brooks winning the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.10).

The Herd will be in action again tomorrow when they travel to Wingate, N.C. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
