Herd Softball Inks Two For 2004-05
11/18/2003
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University softball coach Shonda Stanton has announced two signees to compete for the 2003 Mid-American Conference Regular Season Champion Thundering Herd beginning in the fall of 2004-05. Rachel Folden of Diamond Bar, Calif. and Dee Tourville of Rescue, Calif., both signed National Letters of Intent this week for Marshall.
Rachel Folden comes to Marshall via Diamond Bar High School. The left-handed batter swung for a .454 batting average her junior year with an on-base percentage of .464. The 5?5? catcher also plays summer ball for coach Valerie Vankirk and Cal Thunder 18U Gold. Folden plans on majoring in journalism or mathematics.
?Rachel is an exciting player behind the plate or at a corner position,? Stanton said. ?From the left side, she is a middle of the lineup-type player.?
Also vying from the Golden State is 5?7? shortstop Dee Tourville. Tourville hails from Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, Calif. She is a two-time All-SVC performer for coach Rich Moore. She also plays summer ball for the California Breeze. The Breeze took ninth place in the ASA Nationals in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 2002.
?Dee brings versatility to our program because she can play either middle infield position or in the outfield,? Stanton said. ?Her bat has some pop and she can really get down the line.?
