11/22/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University women's swimming and diving coach Leonard Kraus has announced the signing of four athletes.

The four student-athletes, who will be eligible to begin competing next season, are Renee Lambert of Morrelville, Tenn., Sarah Burnette of Sarasota, Fla., Ashley McIlvain of Brontwood, Tenn., and Jessica Prater of South Point, Ohio.

Lambert is a mid-distance freestyle swimmer who has posted times of 52.8 seconds in the 100-yard, 153.8 seconds in the 200-yard, and 505.0 in the 500-yard. "Renee is a great girl in and out of the pool," Kraus said. "She is a difference maker and someone we will be able to rely on and rally around."

Burnette is a distance swimmer out of Sarasota High that has posted times of 10:34 in the 1000 and 17:35 in the 1650. "Sarah is bright and outgoing," Kraus said. "She is a perfect fit for our team and our distance group."

McIlvain is a standout from Brontwood High School that will help Marshall in the distance events and the 200-yard breaststroke. She has posted times of 10:47 in the 1000 and 2:30 in the 200 breaststroke. "Ashley has a good upside and is determined to continue to improve." Kraus said.

Rounding out the recruiting class is Grace Christian standout Jessica Prater. Prater has posted times of 10:48 in the 1000 and 17:56 in the mile. "Jessica is our first recruit from Ohio, and I could not be happier," Kraus said. "She swims for the local YMCA here in Huntington and she is a tremendous person with a big upside."
