Men's Basketball Readies For Morehead State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's basketball team (0-1) and the Morehead State Eagles (1-1) battle Saturday night in the Cam Henderson Center, with tip-off set for a 7 p.m. start.
The Thundering Herd is looking for a better outcome in game two after they lost their season opener to UNC Wilmington, 65-56, November 21st at home in the Cam Henderson Center. The Seahawks jumped on Marshall early with a 20-8 run to start the game and never trailed in the contest. Marshall was led by junior guard A.W. Hamilton, who scored a team-high 14 points, and fellow junior guard Enoch Bunch, who added 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor. The Herd shot 38.0% from the floor, compared to 44.2% for UNCW, and committed 18 turnovers on the night.
Morehead State is currently 1-1 after defeating Asbury College Tuesday night, 71-54. The Eagles dropped their first game of the season to George Mason, 95-82. Senior guard/forward Ricky Minard leads Morehead State, averaging 22 points per game.
Last season, the Eagles rallied from a 22-point second half deficit to defeat the Thundering Herd in overtime, 101-100, behind Minard?s 35 points. Morehead State used a ferocious press in the final ten minutes that stifled Marshall late and forced multiple turnovers that proved to be costly. The Thundering Herd shot 60.3% from the floor and 58.8% from beyond the arc in the contest.
Saturday's meeting will be the 90th meeting between the Thundering Herd and Eagles, with Marshall leading the all-time series between the two schools, 46-43. In fact, Marshall has taken on Morehead State more times than any other Division I school. Only the University of Charleston has played the Thundering Herd more times (108).
