Marshall Men's Basketball Plays Kentucky in Cincinnati Monday Night
11/30/2003
The Thundering Herd face their stiffest test of the young 2003-04 basketball season when they take on the University of Kentucky, ranked in the top ten in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll, at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati.
The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 10-0, with the last meeting coming in the 2001-02 season when Kentucky defeated the Herd, 90-73, in the consolation game of the NABC Classic at Rupp Arena to begin the 2001-02 season. The first ever meeting between the two schools was on January 21st, 1914, when the Wildcats won the first ever matchup, 46-6.
The meeting also matches Tubby Smith and Ron Jirsa, who worked together at the University of Tulsa and the University of Georgia. Jirsa has never defeated Smith as a head coach (four meetings while he was at Georgia), but he has taken out his former colleague as an assistant at Dayton. His Flyers defeated the Wildcats, 68-66, in November of 1999.
The game can be seen live on the Kentucky Sports Network, or locally in the Tri-State area on WSAZ-TV. Tip-off is set for an 8 p.m. start. Satellite coordinates for the broadcast are SBS 6, Transponder 16.
